According to reports, a 35-year-old man named LaShawn Thompson was found unresponsive in a cell in the psychiatric wing of Fulton County Jail on September 13, 2022. Now, the family of Thompson has asked for a criminal investigation to take place, claiming the man was “eaten alive” by bugs in the disgusting jail cell he was placed in.

Michael Harper, a lawyer for the family of Thompson, shared a statement on the circumstances surrounding the now-deceased man. Harper said Thompson was in custody since June 2022 after being arrested for misdemeanor battery. The lawyer said, “Three months later, Mr. Thompson was found dead in a filthy jail cell after being eaten alive by insects and bed bugs.”

Photos of the disgusting cell that Thompson was placed in, were attached to the statement and showed a torn-out bed along with a dirty floor riddled with stains and debris. The lawyer's statement continued, “When his body was found one of the detention officers refused to administer CPR because in her words, she ‘freaked out.’ The jail cell Mr. Thompson was housed in was not fit for a diseased animal. He did not deserve this.”

The Fulton County medical examiner’s report doesn’t list Thompson’s cause of death but notes a “severe bed bug infestation” in his cell. Additionally, photos of Thompson’s body were shown, with defibrillator pads on his chest and a significant amount of bug bites and what appear to be insects on the pads. Take a look above.
