LeBron James previously made it known that he was not for the stripping of account verification on Twitter. The NBA star tweeted, “Welp guess my blue will be gone soon cause if you know me I ain't paying the 5.” James stuck to his word because it was noted by James’ media advisor Adam Mendelsohn that James did not shell out any money for a Twitter Blue subscription.
From there, it was noted that James was contacted by a Twitter employee whose intention was to “extend a complimentary subscription to Twitter Blue for your account, @kingjames, on behalf of Elon Musk.” Despite the offer, James reportedly declined. Now, Elon Musk has claimed that he is paying for James’ subscription after Twitter rolled out the subscription service this past Thursday (April 20). The Verge released a story titled, “Twitter says LeBron James and other celebs are paying for verification.” Musk reacted to a tweet that featured a screenshot of the headline and said: “I’m paying for a few personally.”
Musk then responded to another tweet that spoke on the Tesla owner saying he’s personally paying for Twitter Blue subscriptions. Musk replied, “Just [William] Shatner, LeBron [James], and [Stephen] King.” Take a look above.
