Update 04/21/2023 2:53pm:

In the aftermath of the "teacher vs. student fight" heard around the world, both parties are now facing assault charges. The viral altercation took place on campus at Rocky Mount High School in the city of Rocky Mount (North Carolina) after a disagreement about the student's access to her cell phone while class was in session. Although the teacher involved, Xaviera Steele, has received an onslaught of backlash for 'grounding and pounding' a minor, she also has her fair share of supporters who were thankful that the adult in the room stood up for herself after being struck first. This has since sparked debates about which party was a fault.

Xaviera recently took to social media to air out her grievances regarding the matter. She explained that her lengthy career in the teaching profession has likely been ruined because of her choice to defend herself from a student that violated her personal space.

"So, I just wanted to say, in all my 22 years [in teaching], never have I ever experienced what I experienced this Monday," Xaviera recalled. "I've never been attacked by young folks. I love young people! This is why I work with them, I have a heart for them [but] that young lady attacked me, and she went for blood. She took out an inch of my hairline...and y'all know that Black women have hair issues. Okay? I don't understand what is it with Black-on-Black crime [and] Black women hating on each other. I never did that. I always show love to my sisters, especially to the kids. The kids are our future...but I'ma tell you this [the student] was in my space; she was behind the desk. I followed protocol for whoever said I touched her first. I tried to call for an administrator or somebody at the office three times. But never in my 22 years of working with young people have I ever been attacked..."

Xaviera had been employed by the Nash County Public School System for approximately one year before the fight. A GoFundMe campaign has been started to support her family. Scroll up to watch the full video.

According to studies, K-12 schools in America are less safe than ever. Mass shootings rates are rising, and so are teacher-student sexual relationships. There also appears to be an uptick in physical altercations between students and their teachers within the confines of a classroom. A fight between a student and a substitute teacher at Rocky Mount High School is under investigation. The on-camera fight escalated quickly when the teacher, Xaviera Steele, and the student exchanged punches and opened-handed slaps. The incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute over the student's usage of a cell phone while class was in session.

In the end, Xaviera Steele got the best of the student with a ground-and-pound technique. Now, it's up to the school district and law enforcement to determine if North Carolina's Public School Policy (which states: if an employee is attacked by a student, the employee has the right to reasonably restrain the student and defend themselves to the point that they are free of the threat or attack) has been violated and if so, what will be the punishment.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported. Scroll up to watch.
