Kevin Durant is one of the greatest players to ever step foot on an NBA court and Nike seemingly recognizes this fact after striking a new lifetime deal making him just the third Nike athlete to have such a contract joining Michael Jordan and LeBron James.
KD, who's been with Nike since 2007, tweeted after the news broke on Friday that it's "a true honor to be in the game for life with Nike." In addition to his signature shoe line, KD's Nike "partnership has extended beyond just apparel, as Nike has collaborated with the Durant Family Foundation and his EYBL program, Team Durant, from a philanthropic standpoint to improve grassroots basketball with court refurbishments and more community-focused projects." Nike looks to continue supporting these efforts as part of their new lifetime deal.
"As one of the best basketball players in the world, Kevin Durant has been an important part of the Nike family for the past 16 years," said Nike EVP of global sports marketing John Slusher. "We look forward to continuing to serve the next generation of athletes together."
