In this clip, Neil deGrasse Tyson and DJ Vlad discussed the shift in portrayals of African Americans during the 1980s. While discussing Eddie Murphy's influence in opening up the doors for Black men to be leading actors in major films with "Beverly Hills Cop," Tyson pointed out that the script makes no reference to the Axel Foley character being Black. After mentioning the same fact for films where Blacks received Academy Award recognition, the scientist brought it back to him and stated that the conversation becomes "ghettofied" when he's called a Black scientist instead of simply a scientist.
