Previously, news surfaced noting high school basketball star Mikey Williams was arrested and put in jail on April 13 after police claimed the teenager was involved in a March 2023 shooting in San Diego county, not too far from where he lives.
Williams reportedly committed to play for the Memphis Tigers at the University of Memphis in November 2022 and also was able to sign a name, image, and likeness deal with Lace Clips. The company was reportedly one of the first to offer up a NIL deal to the star player. However, Lace Clips revealed that the deal is no longer in place.
Lace Clips president Jonathan Nussbaum spoke to TMZ Sports, saying: “We are not continuing our partnership with Mikey Williams.” The president then said despite being given a multiyear contract in 2022, Williams wasn’t doing what needed to be done to fulfill his portion of the agreement, noting, “He is not someone that will be associated with our brand going forward.” The partnership with Williams and Lace Clips will stop at the end of May.
News of this comes after Williams pleaded not guilty to six felony charges in the shooting case against him.
