When the Miami Heat took a 3-0 lead over the Boston Celtics on May 21st, they all but secured their fate as the 151st team in NBA history never to have lost a seven-game series from that particular juncture in a playoff matchup. On the flip side, not only did the embarrassing deficit at the hands of the #8 seed Miami Heat put the Boston Celtics' head coach, Joe Mazzulla, on the hot seat, but it also ignited speculation that the team's All-NBA duo of Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown were unlikely to play another regular season together due to an impending financial decision on whether or not to offer Brown a max-contract extension this Summer.
After staving off elimination three games in a row, the #2 seed Boston Celtics have forced a game seven. In terms of major professional sports in America, a historic 0-3 comeback of this magnitude happened once in hockey (when the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Detriot Red Wings in 1942) and once in Major League Baseball, sixty-two years later (when the Boston Redsox defeated the New York Yankees in the 2004 ALCS). Although the Boston Celtics haven't completed their comeback story yet, their display of grittiness has drawn comparison to the 2004 Boston Red Sox team that would go on to win their first Championship since 1917. Their streak in the face of elimination has also drawn another interesting comparison to a legendary R&B group of the early 2000s.
Moments after the Celtics escaped game 6 in Miami with a buzz-beater from Derrick White, The Score uploaded a video of the team's three most recognizable players, Jason Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Marcus Smart photoshopped on the bodies of Beyonce's old trio, Destiny's Child, in their 2001 music video for "Survivor."
