When Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr. called each other out on Twitter, the result was a super fight between a 49-0 megastar in the sport of boxing and the UFC's lightweight champion back in the Summer of 2017. Both fighters took home well over $100 million. Things have changed a lot since then. Mayweather retired with a professional boxing record of 50-0, while McGregor lost two of his final three MMA fights. One thing that remains consistent is McGregor's penchant for antagonizing boxing's biggest icons. He's hurled several insults at Oscar De La Hoya over the years but throghout the month of May, he's set his sights firmly on the man currently ranked atop boxing's Super middleweight division, Canelo Álvarez. McGregor recently suggested that Canelo was on the downside of his career, stating, "I know he's waning. I'd fight Canelo, no f*cking problem." When McGregor's commentary was brought to Canelo's attention, he responded with the following.
"The truth is I haven’t seen what he said because I don’t have my social networks on my phone right now, but I’ll beat him with one hand behind my back," Canelo said.
Days later, McGregor clapped at Canelo on Twitter. "Canelo you little ginger sausage," McGregor wrote. "I'd beat you with NO HANDS. Don't forget."
