A year ago, Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler had the internet buzzing about his new long dreadlocks that appeared to grow on top of his head overnight. A lot has changed since then. Gone are the long-flowing dreads and silly debates about the validity of his hairdo. This Summer, Jimmy Bulter has been all business. Shortly after being named to the All-NBA second team, the 6'7 wingman led the 8th-seeded Miami Heat to back-to-back upsets over the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Despite being massive underdogs, the Miami Heat are in the NBA Finals for the second time in four years. But according to Coco Gauff, the 6th ranked female tennis player in the world, Jimmy knew exactly where his team would be long before the playoffs started. In a recent post-match interview, upon defeating Rebeka Masarova (Spain), Coco explained that Jimmy Butler slid into her DMs back in April to offer her tickets to see the Miami Heat play their final home game against the Orlando Magic. When the 19-year-old phenomenon responded by telling Jimmy that she couldn't go due to her schedule, he offered her next to watch him play in the NBA Finals instead.
“I said: ‘I won’t be here. I’ll be in Madrid and then Rome and then France,’” Gauff recalled during an interview with reporters.
“And then he said: ‘OK, when we make the Finals, let me know if your family wants some tickets.’ So this was before [the Heat] were even in the playoffs.
“This is before we lost to the Hawks for the first Play-In game. Everybody is like we have a 3% chance of making the Finals, but when he sent me that, I knew we were making the Finals because he didn’t say, ‘If we make the Finals,’ he said: ‘When we make the Finals.’ Now that we are in the Finals, I can say that story.
“But I remember screenshotting it and sending it to my family, and I was, like: ‘Oh, we’re going to the Finals!’”
She concluded, “I just really like that mentality of him.”
The Miami Heat will face the Denver Nuggets in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night.. The Nuggets are led by Nikola Jokic, and they are -400 favorites to win it all.
