Gunna isn't the most beloved figure in hip hop by some of it's street-oriented purists, but there is clearly a market for the tainted artist as he looks to mount a career comeback on the heels of ruining his reputation in the streets.
The Georgia native dropped “Bread & Butter" on Thursday where he seemingly addresses the snitching accusations as he raps, “You b**** ass n***** got me the topic of the chat/You switched on me when you know you in business with a rat/And the boy, that’s like your brother, ain't nobody speak on that,” as well as “Never gave no statement or agree to take no stand on ’em/Whatever you n***as on, then trust me, I’mma stand on it/Lawyers and that DA did some sneaky shit, I fell for it/On my P’s and Q’s because this time I be prepared for it.”
What Gunna does provide is a more realistic case study of an artist who apparently broke the street code yet is attempting to resume their music career. Whether or not Gunna is successful will set an interesting precedent moving forward.
