50 Cent previously called out STARZ over the company rejecting an NFL powerbroker series. He also noted that he hated that he did any shows for them, saying he has no plans to make any spin-offs for the popular ‘BMF’ series. Now in a new interview with Vulture, the artist revealed that STARZ lowballed him on what he was paid per episode for his culture-shifting show ‘Power.’
50 spoke on being passed up by numerous companies like Hulu, HBO, Paramount, and Showtime, saying, “We went to all these organizations in the early stages. They probably had something else they felt was similar, or it wasn’t what they was looking for. I’m sure now they wish they didn’t pass on it.”
The TV showrunner noted he was able to catch STARZ ahead of their rise as a platform, who gave ‘Power’ a shot. With the success of the series, the rapper was also met with issues from the network he faced and publicly addressed.
“And then every two years, it felt like we was auditioning for a major carrier. It’s time to renegotiate, and it would be an issue. So for me at that point, really what it is, is racism,” said 50. The rapper then noted that he was getting a lot of money in the music world but took a massive cut in his pay to pursue creating ‘Power.’ 50 said: “There’s no one that could come and tell me to take $17,000 to act and executive produce and make music. I gave them the theme song for Power. I gave them the things that connected, hopefully, in a different way for it. You see what I’m saying? All those things for $17,000 per episode? I get paid more to go to the nightclub and wave.” His desire to make the show “so bad” found him justifying the lowball from the network at the time.
