In the wake of Devin Haney's controversial win over Vasiliy Lomachenko on May 20th, Shakur Stevenson continues to vie for an opportunity to fight the undisputed champion of boxing's lightweight division with an array of attention-grabbing tactics. Shortly after Haney-Lomachenko, the man currently ranked #4 in the lightweight division hopped in the ring and proceeded to stare Haney down before famously saying, "For now," in response to Haney's comment about retaining his number-one spot. Shakur's proactive approach has gained more support over the weeks as Devin Haney's father/trainer, Bill, was prompted to answer questions from the media about a potential bout in a recent interview.

“The only thing unfortunate about that scenario is that Devin can’t fight them all at the same time,” said Bill Haney, who referred to Shakur Stevenson and Vasyl Lomachenko merely as "tune-ups."

As fate would have it, Devin Haney (30-0) and Shakur Stevenson (20-0) attended the same party last weekend, where both men were within close proximity to one another during the festivities. At one point during the evening, Stevenson sent a bottle of champagne to the champ along with a lit-up message board that read, "Sign the contract." The sign was paraded in front of Haney by a "Promotional Girl," who made sure everyone in attendance could get a glance.

Bill Haney recently indicated that his son would likely move up to 140 lbs soon, but for now, he remains on Shakur's radar in the lightweight division.
