The Tallahassee Police Department released bodycam footage of officer fatally shooting a woman who allegedly tried ambushing them with an assault rifle.

The incident occurred on May 25 at Tom Brown Park in a heavily wooded area. In the nearly 16 minute video of edited footage, we see an 8-minute gun battle between 25-year-old Asia Fitzgerald and police. According to TPD spokeswoman Heather Merritt, "Fitzgerald, who was homeless and living in a van, got off as many as 30 rounds before she was fatally wounded."

"While this situation is one we never want to face, our officers receive regular training in areas such as officer ambush and active assailant responses," said Police Chief Lawrence Revell. "The actions of officers in this incident are a testament to their level of preparation and heroism when encountering dangerous situations that pose a threat to our community."
