On September 6, 2016, Skip Bayless debuted his new debate show on FS1 called Skip and Shannon: Undisputed, amid a highly publicized exit from First Take on ESPN. Although traditional supporters of First Take yearned for the days of the classic shouting matches between Skip Bayless vs. Stephen A. Smith every weekday morning, Shannon Sharpe quickly endeared himself to a national television audience as Skip's new co-host. As the seasons piled at FS1, Shannon became an on-air superstar whose popularity surpassed several big names in the media. His rare ability to recall wise quotes from his grandparents and his signature GOAT mask (in honor of LeBron James) blended exceptionally well with his knowledge of every major American sport and social matters regarding politics and race. During his seven-year tenure on Undipsuted, Shannon became a household name who created a running joke about winning teams/players being allowed to enter his imaginary night spot called "Club Shay Shay." A concept that would later become a spin-off of Undisputed and a hit podcast, where he interviewed A-List celebrities like T.I., Steve Harvey, Magic Johnson, Dwyane Wade, and Deion Sanders in a one-on-one setting.
Sadly, when it comes to the most significant media duos in the history of American professional sports, all good things must come to an end. Much like Mike Francesa and Chris "Mad Dog" Russo back in 2008, the pairing of Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe has reached a conclusion that has left fans wanting more. On Tuesday morning, a tearful Shannon Sharpe said goodbye to Undisputed, the executive producers at FS1, their loyal fanbase, and his mentor in sports television, Skip Bayless.
The man who fans nicknamed "Unc" years ago leaves FS1 with full ownership of Club Shay Shay after a contractual buyout was announced on May 31st. He's one of the first ex-NFL players to cover every major sport as a TV personality, thus making him a pioneer in the genre.
Skip and Shannon: Undisputed is the most-watched show on FS1's morning lineup. Scroll up to watch Shannon's final segment.
