Last weekend, Teofimo Lopez (19-1) defeated Josh Taylor to capture the WBO and lineal junior welterweight championship. The unanimous decision marked Teofimo's third win at 140 lbs. Shortly after the impressive win in New York City, the 25-year-old announced his retirement from professional boxing. However, footage recently surfaced of his father, Teofimo Lopez Sr., discussing with Bill Haney the possibility of a potential super fight between their sons. Logistically, the matchup could work because Bill Haney has been campaigning for his son, Devin (30-0), to move up from 135 lbs to 140 lbs since 2020, previously stating, “We cannot get no fights at 135 from nobody. We will be going to 140.”

In addition to being trained by their fathers, Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez share other commonalities, such as their controversial wins over Vasiliy Lomachenko (17-3); a man who some pundits argued beat them both. With retirement looming over the Lopez camp and Bill Haney mauling offers for Devin's next fight, the two dads caught up with one another before Teofimo's latest bout. Toward the end of their friendly exchange, Bill posed a question to Teofimo Lopez Sr.

"Did I come here for nothing?" Bill asked. "If [your son] wins, do you promise that it's Devin and and Lopez?"

"F*ck yeah!" Replied Teofimo Lopez Sr., interrupting Bill mid-sentence. "For 20 million dollars motherf*cka!"

After the quick discussion, the dads shook hands. Despite the footage, Teofimo Lopez Jr. has mainly his stance of retirement. Only time will tell if his dad's $20 million wager with Bill Haney will change his mind.
