Since the golden era of West Coast rap in the 1990s, emcees and producers from Los Angeles have often overshadowed their counterparts from up north in terms of mainstream acclaim. Iconic figures such as Dr. Dre, Suge Knight, Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill, and DJ Quick helped pave the way for the current generation of LA-based artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Tyler the Creator, Tyga, and YG. Meanwhile, rappers originally from the Bay Area, like Guapdad 4000, Symba, and Lil Blood, haven't always received the media attention they deserved. In a recent interview on The Bootleg Kev Podcast, Lil Blood recalled a recent attempt to help bring more attention to the talented artists from his area by inviting Tyga and YG to West Oakland for a music video shoot. But according to Lil Blood, their presence was met with hostility by the locals instead of the warm welcome that he would have liked.
