Since the inception of the WNBA in 1996, the NBA and its players have been out front in their support of what has become one of the most successful professional women's basketball leagues in the world. The NBA has made crucial contributions to the growth of the WNBA by sharing global platforms such as the NBA All-Star Weekend and NBA2K. Athough there is still a significant gap between the athletes' salaries in both leagues, NBA players such as Enes Kanter (aka Enes Freedom) have vouched for an increase in wages for their female counterparts in the WNBA. In fact, as a showing of solidarity with the ladies, Kyrie Irving donated $1.5 million to all of the WNBA players who sat out the 2020 season due to Covid-19.

Mikal Bridges, a star player for the Brooklyn Nets, recently reached out to A'ja Wilson, a two-time WNBA MVP with the Las Vegas Aces, via Twitter to show his support for the league's defending champions.

"Whens the next game???" Mikal tweeted.

It appeared to be a sincere message about a team that's off to the best start in the league with a 13-1 record. But the Aces' power forward didn't see it that way and replied with a proverbial "stiff arm."

"pls leave me alone [blank stare emoji] we cool over here," A'ja tweeted.

The two professional basketball players may have more in common than A'ja realizes. They're both forwards who averaged nearly 20 points in their most recent regular seasons. Last year, Mikal's effective field goal percentage was 53.5%, which is an exact match of Aj'a Wilson's eFG% from this year. These tidbits could make for an interesting talking point if Mikal's next attempt to communicate with A'ja succeeds.
