There are over 200 species of snakes in Vietnam, including the Reticulated python and the Burmese python. The Reticulated python is considered the longest snake in the world, while the Burmese python is infamous for its ability to squeeze its prey to death. Horrific encounters between snakes and humans in Vietnam date back centuries, but during the country's last war (The Vietnam War), the U.S. soldiers reported numerous tales of their run-ins with some of the jungles' most dangerous snakes, such as the Viet Cong sniper, the bamboo pit viper, and the many-banded krait.

For the patrons of Vietnam, surviving a region populated by so many poisonous snakes is an ongoing struggle that results in thousands of deaths yearly. A clip of one of the country's large carnivorous reptiles slithering its way into someone's home, recently went viral. The footage depicts a woman sleeping with a baby on a hammock while the snake crept dangerously close. Luckily for the woman, she jumped up and grabbed the baby just in time. If she had slept for a little while longer, she and the baby might have become dinner for the giant predator. Thankfully, that wasn't the case.
