Update 07/01/2023 4:15am:
Elon Musk sparked rumors surrounding his purported showdown with Mark Zuckerberg with his tweet just after midnight on Friday when he threw out there that the fight could happen at the Colosseum in Rome.
Reports surfaced that Italy's Ministry of Culture reached out to Mark Zuckerberg about hosting the event. However, Italian governmental officials have since refuted the report claiming that no one contacted Zuckerberg or Musk for that matter.
Italy's Ministry of Culture issued a statement, which read, in part, "There has been no formal contact from the ministry nor any written document, even if the news appears tasty it is unfounded." Adding, "If Zuckerberg and Musk wanted to perform in the Colosseum they would have to make a non-violent challenge."
But TMZ's sources are pushing back and confirmed "the Ministry first reached out to Mark Zuckerberg, then the request was forwarded to Dana White, and there was a follow-up and a call was set for next week."
