Pop Smoke’s rapid-fire rise to rap success ahead of his tragic death was a storied one. However, Pop’s manager Steven Victor revealed there were issues he had to deal with creatively with releasing music following the New York artist’s death.

While speaking to Rap Radar, Victor addressed backlash the late Virgil Abloh faced for the album covers of Pop’s releases after his passing. “That was bulls**t. People sit back and think they know, but they don’t know s**t. They’re like, ‘oh, this is not what Pop would like.’ I’m like, ‘f**k you talkin’ about?’” Victor said.

Victor added more context, saying, “When we did the video for ‘Shake the Room,’ like that whole concept and idea was Virgil’s idea, and when we were going through the process, like at first, Pop was like—’cause, y’know, he’d never had a video like that—he was like, ‘I don’t know,’ but he trusted Virgil’s vision, so it would’ve been the same thing.” Watch above.
