Ice-T is an innovator in the world of hip-hop, specifically in gangsta rap, which has now become a prominent part of the art form. However, the rapper and actor has taken time to reflect on the changes in music and society that stem from the sound, issuing a warning to newer rappers in the process.
While speaking to People Magazine at the ESSENCE Festival in New Orleans, Ice-T spoke candidly about the newer generation of artists. “I think people from my generation are really upset with what’s going on with the youngsters because every week somebody’s going to jail,” said the ‘Law & Order: SVU’ actor.
He continued, “People are dying of drugs, killing each other.” Ice-T’s commentary led him to say, “Youngsters who are out here behaving like that, these kids are millionaires. So I don’t know how many young people gotta get lost, I don’t know which one might trigger that message, but I think it’s time for this generation to get a hold of itself.”
