Update 07/05/2023 2:01pm:

This week, Boosie took to Instagram in an effort to respond to commentary from his followers regarding his participation in traditional 4th of July activities. With a sincere look on his face, the Baton Rouge native expressed that he genuinely did not understand the meaning of the holiday, which is why he casually celebrated it with fireworks every year. From there, he asked his followers to drop paragraphs in his comment section so that he could gain a better understanding of why there were upset. Shortly thereafter, Snoop Dogg responded by breaking things down for his fellow rapper and explaining the difference between the 4th of July and Juneteenth.

“It’s ya oppresses freedom celebration we weren’t free yet and that’s why call me Nefew I’ll game u up,” Snoop Dogg wrote in the comment section. He added, “Juneteenth is our holiday of last free slaves.”

Boosie, just as many on the 4th of July, likely celebrated with friends and family over food and culminated with a fireworks show. However, Boosie found himself the object of criticism for celebrating the 4th much to the chagrin of many of his followers.

The Louisiana rapper took to social media and asked why should he not be celebrating U.S. independence. A quick scroll through the comments show that people are pointing out the continuance of chattel slavery after independence was secured in 1776 while also laying out the ongoing issues faced by black people in America who are ostensibly free.

Nevertheless, Boosie seemed really inquisitive about the topic and it'll be interesting to see how he approaches the holiday next year after learning more about it.
