Although seagulls typically feed on fish, mollusks, small shrimp, worms, bird eggs, insects, leftover human food, and dead animals, they're scavengers that'll happily chomp down on anything they can find when their preferable dietary choices are off the menu. These seabirds eat about 20% of their body weight on a daily basis, not to mention the responsibilities that come with feeding their chicks anywhere between three and six times every 24 hours. Needless to say, when a seagull has to eat, it can quickly transform from a simple scavenger to a fierce predator out for blood. In some instances around the world, seagulls have snatched up and eaten small domesticated dogs.

This week, a video clip began making its rounds throughout media cycles of a hungry seagull breaking the norm and swallowing an entire squirrel as cars drove by in the background. The somewhat unusual occurrence showed off the bird's unhinged jaws and long beak, which allows them to break down and eat larger prey when the situation calls for it.

Scroll up to watch the seagull devour an entire squirrel. The meal lasted just over one minute.
