An investigation is underway regarding the alleged sexual encounters between multiple Chicago Police Officers and the migrants living at the West Side Police Station. The Bureau of Internal Affairs is conducting the inspection, and it commenced on Thursday, shortly after the Chicago-Sun Times reported that four officers from the Ogden District were having sexual relations with female migrants (from Central America) who previously arrived in Chicago during the Spring, after been transported by bus from Texas. Currently, 22 Chicago Police Stations are providing hundreds of migrants with temporary housing. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is assisting the Bureau of Internal Affairs in the investigation. Thus far, one of the most notable incidents involving the shocking chain of events is that a teenage migrant was impregnated during an alleged stay at the 10th District police station in North Lawndale. Meanwhile, other reports suggest that some sexual exploits between the CPD and migrants involved minors.
According to studies, the CPD has paid nearly $580 million in judgments due to allegations of misconduct in the past ten years. From cocaine rings to gang ties, corruption within the Chicago Police Department dates back several decades. While several migrants have indicated that their experience with the CPD has been respectful and professional, an investigation into this matter is ongoing.
Yesterday, a representative for Mayor Brandon Johnson released the following statement:
"The City takes these allegations, as well as the care and well-being of all residents and new arrivals, very seriously. We are monitoring the situation closely but cannot comment further as this is the subject of an ongoing investigation by the Bureau of Internal Affairs and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability."
