Larry Nassar, the former Team USA gymnastics doctor, was stabbed multiple times during an altercation with another inmate at the United States Penitentiary Coleman in Florida. Nassar has been in prison since 2017 after pleading guilty to various charges of sexual abuse of underage girls while a doctor for the US Olympics team. He is serving decades for convictions in state and federal courts.
According to the Associated Press, Nassar was stabbed in the chest and back during the incident on Sunday (July 9) and is currently in stable condition. Sources close to the situation told the AP that the officers assigned to the unit Nassar is being held were working mandated overtime due to staffing shortages. One of the officers was working a 16-hour shift, while the other was reportedly on their second-straight shift.
