News surfaced noting the trial date for the two defendants in the Young Dolph murder has been set.

The trial date was set by Judge Lee Coffee this past Friday (July 14) for Justin Johnson and Cornelius Smith, with March 11, 2024, serving as the day it begins. Johnson has maintained his innocence since his arrest for the 2021 shooting in Memphis. According to WREG 3 Memphis, Johnson will have one last chance to change his plea before the trial.

Johnson and Smith were charged with first-degree murder, and it was noted that prosecutors are not pushing for the death penalty. Smith and Johnson both pleaded not guilty to the murder charges.

Luke Evans, an attorney for Johnson, said: “Mr. Johnson wants to exercise his right to be tried by a jury of his peers,” meaning he plans to go to trial. Judge Coffee noted both parties will have until December 1, 2023, to come to a resolution or file any other motions. Stay tuned for more updates.
