On Saturday night UFC Vegas 77 was headlined by a main event featuring Holly Holm (the first woman to KO Ronda Rousey) and Mayra Bueno Silva. The fight ended with a submission loss for Holm when Bueno Silva locked her into a standing guillotine choke in the second round. Although there was much hype surrounding Bueno Silva after an impressive win, a mid-card fight between Norma Dumont (10-2) and Chelsea Chandler (5-2).
Shortly after "Dumont vs. Chandler" got underway, the latter got walloped so hard that she turned and made a run for it, causing the color commentators, Daniel Cormier and Dominik Cruz, to start laughing and firing off jokes during the broadcast. To be fair, Chandler was simply trying to avoid a barrage of strikes, but the way she did it caused her to go viral. Chandler ended up surviving the round, but she lost the fight on the scorecards (30-27) with a unanimous decision. According to reports, the two featherweight fighters got into a heated exchange backstage during weigh-ins. But after their peculiar bout on Saturday night, Dumont left no doubt that she was primed and ready to make a run in their division now that the legendary Amanda Nunes has retired.
