When it comes to commentary about American street gangs with ties to the Chicano community, King Yella has never been one to hold his tongue. In the past, King Yella alleged that Mexican gang members had targeted people like himself before explaining the street politics between the Black and Brown communities in his hometown of Chicago. He also stated had several Mexican friends growing up.
King Yella recently made a trip to Southern California, where he alleged that Mexicans in San Bernardino (about 60 miles outside of Los Angeles) tried to kill him and his kids in a shooting (you can view the aftermath here). Shortly after the incident, King Yella took to social media with a video that details the near-death encounter. Hours later, King Yella received backlash for a choice of words that appeared to generalize an entire ethnic group instead of condemning the group of individuals involved in the isolated incident. Therefore, King Yella hopped back on IG Live to open a friendly dialogue with people from the Mexican American community about his previous statement. (You can watch some of the footage here).
