A 10-year-old boy was taken into custody by the Chicago Police Department following an exchange where the pre-adolescent shooter engaged with a SWAT team during a standoff. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon in the Beverly neighborhood of South Side Chicago. According to reports, he found a legal gun inside his home before firing multiple shots. Once law enforcement arrived, they discharged tear gas and bean bags to secure the capture of the preteen. After the preteen was apprehended, he was transported to a hospital for treatment.

"He's a child, so that's what's in our mind when we have discussions of what's the next step, so definitely his age and the distress he's in, very important for any incident but this one in particular because it was very delicate," said Chicago Police Deputy Chief Migdalia Bulnes.
