Update 07/27/2023 10:54am:

"Painting Pictures" rapper Superstar Pride, 20, was denied bond after being arrested last week for first-degree murder in Mississippi. Pride, real name Cadarrius Pride, is accused of shooting and killing his barber, 40-year-old Marcus Wheatley, on July 19.

Wheatley's grandmother, Mary Ann Strong, shared more details on the incident, revealing that Pride threatened her during the incident. She told Memphis' News Channel 3, "The young man was shooting at him and he finally shot him down. He shot about three times after he fell and he walked over to me and he pointed the gun at me and asked if I was going to tell it." Wheatley added, "And he came back out here and fired a last shot in his head."

As for what she thinks led to the incident, Strong stated that Wheatley didn't want to follow Pride to a music video shoot in California, "He wanted Marcus to follow him and he couldn’t do it. He couldn’t help him make no more money."

Panola County Sheriff Shane Phelps is confident that they'll figure out the motive, as he told the Panolian, "Right now this is a puzzle. We don’t know why Cadarrius Pride shot Marcus Wheatley. They were friends and had known each other a long time. We are interviewing people and asking questions and sooner or later the truth is going to come out."

Phelps also revealed that a family member of Pride's signed papers at the Sheriff’s Office two days before the shooting asking that he be picked up for mental evaluation.
