From the legendary Alcatraz escape of 1962 to El Chapo's prison escapes in the early 2000s, prisoners are notorious for finding new and resourceful ways of breaking free from captivity. On Thursday night around 10:30 pm, an inmate named Bokeem Jones at Rikers Island nearly added himself to the infamous list of escapees when he disguised himself as a correctional officer and tried to casually stroll out the door of the Otis Bantum Correctional Center before he was staffers noticed him and asked him to stop. This prompted the 28-year-old to make a run for it. The incident culminated with a physical altercation where Jones was restrained with pepper spray. Although Jones was finally subdued, he didn't do down without a fight. He managed to injure three correctional officers during the fray.
