Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker recently signed a controversial bill into law allowing non-citizens to become police officers. This decision has sparked a lot of debate, with former Chicago mayoral candidate Dr. Willie Wilson threatening to challenge the law in court if it isn't repealed before it takes effect on January 1st.

According to State Rep. Barbara Hernandez, the goal of the bill is to allow DACA recipients and legal permanent residents to apply to become police officers. With over 30,000 DACA recipients currently living and working in Illinois and a significant shortage of officers statewide, supporters of the bill argue that it will help fill vacant law enforcement positions.

However, Dr. Wilson opposes the law, stating that no other country allows non-citizens to become police officers. He believes that the law is fundamentally wrong and plans to take the legislation to court if necessary.

Illinois is not the first state to pass such legislation, as California passed a similar law earlier this year. While the controversy surrounding this issue continues, it remains to be seen whether Dr. Wilson's threat to challenge the law will come to fruition.
