An entire community in Santa Cruz, Costa Rica, is in mourning after a horrific incident involving a giant crocodile that took the life of a soccer player for Deportivo Río Canas named Jesus Alberto Lopez Ortiz (29). According to reports, the man nicknamed "Chucho" leaped into Cañas River after a grueling workout. That river is heavily populated with two types of crocodiles. Hence, shortly after Ortiz hit the water, a crocodile emerged from the murky water, snatched him up, and devoured his corpse as terrified spectators looked on. When law enforcement arrived, they shot the crocodile to obtain Ortiz's remains for his family. (you can watch that incident here).
In response to the tragic news, representatives from Deportivo Río Canas released the following statement:
"With deep sorrow we make public the death of our player Jesus Lopez Ortiz (Chucho) may God rest his soul. Rest in Peace Chucho, we join the pain of all his family. We will miss you. You are taking a part of all of us with you, dear friend.Today is a very difficult day for all of us and we will remember you in the many facets of your sporting life as a coach, player and also as a family man. You will always live in our hearts Chucho. Fly high."
