Tory Lanez has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after felony convictions for shooting Megan Thee Stallion. Reporter Meghann Cuniff, who's covered the case and trial closely, announced the judge's sentence on Twitter.
Prosecutors asked for a 13-year sentence for the 31-year-old, whose real name is Daystar Peterson. The prosecution argued that his social media posts added trauma to Meg Thee Stallion and facilitated additional attacks on the rap star.
However, Lanez's defense attorneys requested probation and for their client to enter a residential substance abuse program following his immediate release from jail. His lawyers also argued that the evidence presented at trial was questionable. Therefore, his lack of remorse shouldn't have been a factor in his sentencing.
The shooting occurred in the summer of 2020 after a party at Kylie Jenner's house. Megan Thee Stallion testified that Tory Lanez shot at the back of her feet and demanded her to dance as she walked away following an argument.
Tory Lanez had been in jail since December, when he was found guilty of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
