Update 08/08/2023 9:06am:

Iggy Azalea caught a wave of backlash after it was revealed that she wrote a letter to Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge David Herriford ahead of Tory Lanez's sentencing. Iggy reportedly asked the judge to impose a sentence "that is transformational, not life destroying."

Iggy responded to the criticism, writing, "I really hate that this is todays discourse online because it’s not really an explosive revelation."

Iggy added, "Yes: he should be held accountable. No: the charges don’t warrant 5plus in prison. Most agree with that sentiment because it’s a reasonable take. This is not news worthy. "

Tory Lanez is set to be sentenced today (August 7) after being found guilty earlier this year of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.

Ahead of the sentencing, the judge received several letters in support of Tory, including one from Iggy Azalea. Legal journalist Meghann Cuniff made the revelation while reporting on the sentencing, adding that over 70 letters were sent to the judge.

Cuniff tweeted, "I haven't seen the letters yet, but most interesting to me was Herriford saying a jailer wrote a letter that says Lanez 'is remorseful' and has 'talked in detail about the event and what he could have done to prevent it.' It's the closest we've ever come to Lanez saying he did.

She added, "That jailer didn’t talk in court, but the chaplain did. (I should be able to get the letters, but maybe not today.) Judge Herriford said Iggy [Azalea's] letter asks him to impose a sentence 'that is transformational, not life destroying.'"
