A wildfire engulfed the Hawaiian town of Lahaina on the island of Maui, leaving people to jump in the ocean to escape the flames. Eyewitnesses described it as "an apocalyptic scene," and Coast Guard Lt. Elaine Simon told CBS News that the wind was blowing thick black smoke toward the water.

Wind gusts made it impossible for helicopters to dump water accurately, and firefighters were unable to access roads due to downed trees. Hurricane Dora was also complicating matters for firefighters in an already dry season. Check out the footage.
