On Sunday, an unidentified woman pulled up to Ortiz Tacos stand on Grandee Avenue and East 103rd Street in Watts, California, and ordered food. According to the owner of the taco stand, the unidentified woman was asked to pay for her items on five separate occasions. In response, she went ballistic on the staff, unleashing punches and discharging pepper spray. She even threw a water bottle and the vendor's sign at the workers. When the attack was finally over, the assailant simply hopped back into her car and drove off into the night. The incident occurred around 6:30 pm.
"I was in shock, you could say," said Joana Vasquez, a worker who was attacked. "I didn't know what to do, to defend myself or not, because one, she was hitting me and I said if, 'I defend myself, I will get hurt more..."She sprayed the pepper spray on us. The only thing I wanted to do was to cry and yell. I don't know because I was in so much pain."
Ortiz Tacos posted the on-camera incident on Instagram, and shortly thereafter, the assailant was identified by her employers at Simplified Companies, who terminated her employment immediately.
"My first reaction was anger," said Ash Wahi, the Ceo of Simplified Companies. "Why? Why would somebody have to do something like this when somebody is just trying to feed their family," he said. "We found out about her actions [at] 6:30 this morning, and she was terminated at 8:30."
Despite the cruelness of the incident, Ortiz Tacos has opted not to press charges. In addition, no arrests have been made.
