According to reports, over 100 Croatian soccer fans have been charged with murder and gang activity after a violent riot erupted outside of a Greek stadium.
The match between AEK Athens and Dinamo Zagreb was postponed for several hours after the riot ensued which left a 29-year-old Greek fan dead. Video of the incident shows Croatian fans wielding iron bars and bats ouside the Athenian stadium, in addition to explosives being detonated during the riot.
AEK Athens didn't mince words when calling for "immediate and severe punishment" for their Croatians adversaries. “The question that torments our fans is one that we described from the outset and that also torments us: How is it possible that following the brutal murder of Michalis by a gang of vicious criminals from Croatia, for AEK Athens to enter the field and play against this team?” AEK said. “Will any of his killers be in the stands?”
Roughly 97 went before a magistrate though it is likely the murder charge will be dropped for the majority of them. Authorities also made 6 other arrests of Croatian nationals attempting to flee the country via ferry en route to Italy while another suspect was arrested en route via bus to Albania.
