In this clip, Raymond Hicks sheds light on his experiences with law enforcement officers who were charged with crimes and passed through his facility. Despite the inherent complexity of supervising individuals who were once his peers, Hicks stresses that it was his duty to remain professional. He treated charged officers as any other detainees, ensuring they were kept away from the general imprisoned population for their safety. Hicks criticizes the culture of labeling inmates as “low lives” and “scumbags,” asserting that not everyone who enters the system is corrupt. He also shares his own experience of being charged wrongfully, citing several due process violations. He recounts enduring a five-month solitary confinement period, as well as being placed in general population with inmates he arrested as a cop. Hicks argues the treatment he received wasn't common for other law enforcement officers, calling for a change in the system.
