Last week, a group of 40 criminals pulled up to the YSL store at the American in Glendale, California, before getting away scot-free with over $300,000 worth of luxury designer merchandise. This week, another masked group pulled off a daring heist about 30 miles away at the Topanga Mall in Canoga Park. Actions like these have become a repetitive cycle in Los Angeles County, now considered the epicenter for "flash mob" robberies. The incident at the Topanga Mall promoted a response from the Mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, who, along with many residents of L.A. County, has grown frustrated with state regulations that discourage employees from stopping criminal acts in progress.

“What happened today at the Nordstrom in the Topanga Mall is absolutely unacceptable,” Mayor Bass wrote. “Those who committed these acts and acts like it in neighboring areas must be held accountable...The Los Angeles Police Department will continue to work to not only find those responsible for this incident but to prevent these attacks on retailers from happening in the future,” she added.
