Dominique Wilkins shared his story of growing up in Baltimore's rough neighborhoods. He narrated how at age 13, he tragically witnessed his friend die in a bus-hopping accident, a common practice amongst young people at the time. This experience left a significant emotional impact on him. At 16, after seeing the regular violence and crime in his neighborhood, he decided to leave Baltimore for good. He moved to North Carolina with no specific plans or a place to stay. However, fortune smiled on him when he met a high school coach who provided him with a home in exchange for playing for his team. His basketball career blossomed from then, and he was featured in Sports Illustrated and participated in the McDonald’s all-American game alongside other future Hall of Famers.
