Ne-Yo discussed his early years attending performing arts school in Las Vegas. At this time, Ne-Yo was too shy to sing publicly. However, his talent was discovered during a school talent show that his group of visual arts majors decided to take part in to poke fun at it. Drawing the short straw, Ne-Yo sang Boyz II Men in front of the academy, stunning his peers. This gave him newfound popularity and led to him joining a singing group, starting to take his music career seriously. He even mentioned their unsuccessful performance at amateur night on Showtime at the Apollo and their misunderstanding of having to perform with the house band.
