"The Summer of Shannon Sharpe" has finally concluded. Six days after an announcement was made that Shannon Sharpe agreed to a deal with ESPN that would make him Stephen A. Smith's debate partner twice a week (Monday & Tuesday), the Hall of Fame tight end revealed that he was taking his hit podcast, Club Shay Shay, to The Volume. Established by award-winning radio personality Colin Cowherd, The Volume was launched in 2021 and has since become home to a number of charismatic athletes who currently host their podcasts on the network, such as Richard Sherman (The Richard Sherman Podcast) and Draymond Green (The Draymond Green Show).

After his departure from FS1 as the co-host of Undisputed with Skip Bayless, some pundits predicted that Shannon Sharpe would opt for a lucrative deal similar to Pat McAfee's agreement with ESPN or FanDuel. The Volume was rarely mentioned as a potential destination to land the hottest free agent in sports media. Nevertheless, Shannon and Colin Cowherd were colleagues together as FS1 for nearly seven years. Their shows aired back-to-back from the same Fox Studio Lot in Los Angeles. Their established rapport gave Colin a solid chance to make his sales pitch, and it worked.
