Dominique Wilkins recalled his memorable win in the 1989 dunk contest against Kenny Smith -- a moment made less significant as it was one of the years Michael Jordan wasn't part of the competition. Despite some difficulties, including a challenging period for the Atlanta Hawks due to injuries, Wilkins fondly remembered 1989 as a special year. He also reminisced on the intense playoff matchup between the Hawks and the Detroit Pistons, known for their aggressive "Bad Boys" persona. Wilkins highlighted the brutal, physical nature of these games, expressing both mutual respect and dislike between the teams. Particularly, he talked about his on-court rivalry with Bill Laimbeer, who, while being an aggressive opponent, was very pleasant off-court. The rigorous attitude of the Pistons in making the opposition "earn" their points proved effective for them, bagging two championships.
