Part 1: Fred Williamson on Joining 49ers, Got "The Hammer" Nickname Knocking Out Players

--------

Former football star Fred "The Hammer" Williamson discussed his experiences playing in the NFL in the 1960s. Williamson started with the Raiders in 1961 and stood out due to his size, skill, and confidence. However, his time with the team came to an end following a racially charged confrontation with two white players in the locker room. This led to him being traded to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs were glad to have him because, due to his size and tackling style, he went unchallenged by other teams. He also pointed out that he was a polarizing figure during his career and that his aggressive tackling technique likely wouldn't be allowed in the game with present-day rules.
