Update 08/31/2023 7:03am:

According to reports, Jay-Z's organization Team ROC is set to represent the man wrongfully arrested inside a Kenosha, WI Applebee's last month and who is still facing charges. Team ROC enlisted lawyer Alex Spiro to defend Jermelle English Jr. and his family with hopes of getting all charges dropped.

English was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after being falsely accused of a hit-and-run. During the cops' investigation of the incident, they questioned English which eventually led to officers violently assaulting him before putting the man in cuffs. The actual hit-and-run suspects were later found hiding inside the restaurant’s bathroom.

“The reckless arrest of Jermelle English Jr. and the careless endangerment of his infant child by the Kenosha Police Department is an absolute travesty," Team ROC Managing Director Dania Diaz tells TMZ Hip Hop. "Team ROC team is here to support Jermelle and his family through this traumatic experience, demand justice and hold the Kenosha police officers accountable."

Video coming out of Kenosha, WI shows police assaulting a man during an attempted arrest for a hit-and-run only to find out later that they were trying to apprehend the wrong person.

Police were searching for the suspects involved in a hit-and-run on July 20. Witnesses told authorities that they saw two black men and a black woman with a child go inside of a nearby Applebee's.

“(Police) came in and asked (the family) to show them what car they came in, so they could verify if they were in the car accident or not,” said Applebee's manager Jennifer Harris, who was present the night of the assault.

Another employee noted that a man and a woman with a child were having dinner when they were approached for questioning. “The guy didn’t want to comply, he had his baby in his arms. (The officers) kept telling him he’s not under arrest, but he’s detained, and needed to answer this question,” Harris said. “He was trying to say he needed to change his son’s diaper. He tried to go the other way, they tackled him into a wall and the baby hit its head on the wall.”

Despite cops learning that the people in the restaurant had nothing to do with the hit-and-run, the man tackled in the restaurant was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting and obstructing an officer.
