Steve Harwell, the lead singer of the popular rock band Smash Mouth, has passed away at the age of 56, according to TMZ. 

Harwell's manager said he passed away on Monday (September 4) morning at his home in Boise, Idaho due to liver failure. Sources tell the outlet that Harwell battled with his health "over alcohol abuse, among other ailments." Over the weekend, TMZ reported that Harwell was in hospice with only days to live. 

Smash Mouth skyrocketed to fame in the early 2000s with hits like "All Star," which was made even more famous after it was on the "Shrek" soundtrack. The band had other big hits, including "Walkin' on the Sun," "Then The Morning Comes," as well as a cover of The Monkees' "I'm a Believer."
