An AI-generated song featuring two of the biggest artists in the world has been submitted for a Grammy.
According to Variety, “Heart on My Sleeve," which features AI-generated voices made to sound like Drake and The Weekend, was submitted for a Grammy. Since the lyrics were created by an actual person, an artist named Ghostwriter, it is eligible for a Grammy award.
Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. confirmed the song's eligibility in an interview with The New York Times, where he stated that "it’s absolutely eligible because a human wrote it."
However, there's still a roadblock with Grammy consideration, as rules for nominees include that the project must have "generation distribution." This means that "the broad release of a recording, available nationwide via brick-and-mortar stores, third-party online retailers and/or streaming services." Universal Music had "Heart on My Sleeve" taken off of DSPs after its release, but it has continued to pop up on various social media channels.
