Although Wu-Tang Clan is widely known for being heavily influenced by fictional kung-fu films, several members of the legendary rap group have always shared an affinity for comic book characters. For example, Inspectah Deck famously said, "Swinging through your town like your neighborhood Spider-Man," in the group's debut single, "Protect Ya Neck," back in 1992. Also, not only did Ghostface Killah name his first album after Ironman, but he adopted the moniker "Tony Stark" as his rap alias. Furthermore, the group's leader, RZA, previously referred to the Wu-Tang Clan as "The Avengers" back in 2013. Later in the 2010s, he would go on to direct the sixth episode of Iron Fist on Netflix. Method Man, the most successful solo artist from the Wu-Tang Clan, is also greatly inspired by graphic novels, and he appears ready for the next step in his evolution as an actor by taking on the role of a character from X-Men.

During the 2000s, Method Man branched out into the realm of acting with his portrayal of Melvin Wagstaff in The Wire, a show many consider to be the best series of all time. In recent years, he's become more commonly known for playing a lawyer in 50 Cent's "Power Universe" named Davis MacLean. Despite his success in Power and Power Book II: Ghost, the 52-year-old has had his sights set on playing a fictional character from Marvel Comics named Bishop for quite some time. In the comic books, Bishop is a human mutant that descends from the Aboriginal peoples of Australia. After moving to America, Bishop becomes a member of Professor X's mutant police force (before joining the X-men). Bishop can suck up radiant and conductive energy deployed from his enemies before using the power against them. In a recent interview with Cassius, Method Man pitched himself for the role before explaining why he would be the proper casting choice for Marvel Studios.

“I was just putting it out there to see if I could hook something,” Meth said. “Those guys at the MCU, they know their stuff. I haven’t had any problems with any of their casting choice so far. So whoever gets the job…I think Omar Sy (an actor from France) did an excellent job as Bishop (in X-Men: Days Of Future Past), but that was before MCU. If they chose him again, I think he’d kill it. There’s a few people out there. But if they’re willing to give me a shot, I’d go for it. Plus, I’ve done all the research already.”

Over the years, members of the Wu-Tang Clan have published a number of their original comic books, such as The Nine Rings of Wu-Tang, Twelve Reasons to Die and RZA Presents Bobby Digital and the Pit of Snakes Deluxe Edition. In addition, RZA and Method Man executive produced the brilliant biographical drama about their group's rise to stardom on Hulu called Wu-Tang: An American Saga. Because RZA has already worked with Marvel Studios and Method Man continues to add to his resume as an actor, perhaps they can create their own path toward a production based on Bishop in the future.
