However, he admired Chris Rock's professional handling of the situation, saying Rock made it seem like it was part of the show. Michael suggested the hostility might have had roots in an Oscar boycott led by Smith a few years ago over his nomination for his role in 'Concussion.' They also discuss that Rock's joke about Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, may have triggered the assault. Michael, however, emphasized that as a comedian, one should be prepared to take a joke even when it seems dumb.
